"This
is an artist who deserves to be heard" - Performing Songwriter
Magazine
In the world of performing songwriters, there is perhaps no higher
compliment. Armed with a warm soulful voice, the raw honesty of
her acoustic guitar, and deeply resonating songs, Kathrin Shorr
is emerging as one of today’s most promising singer-sonwriters.
Many people want to be heard, some artists truly deserve the chance.
Every time Kathrin picks up a guitar and steps to the microphone,
she is out to prove she is one them. From the glowing reviews and
fans she has been gathering in both the United States and Europe,
it’s obvious that people are indeed listening and taking notice.
Born in London, England, in 1974, Kathrin grew up in Los Angeles,
California. As a teenager she found an old acoustic guitar in her
father’s clock shop and spent the next several months teaching herself
to play. What she also discovered along the way was a voice full
of power and passion. Drawing influences from artists like The Indigo
Girls, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Bonnie Raitt and Etta James, Kathrin
began crafting a sound she calls “soulfolk”.
In her first year on the scene she was nominated for the 1996 Artist
of the Year Award by the National Academy of Songwriters. In 1998
Kathrin released her debut CD, “the seed” to rave reviews, and was
chosen to receive ASCAP's prestigious Sammy Cahn Lyricist Award,
presented at the Lincoln Center in NYC. She performed at the NXNE
Music Conference in Toronto, and toured up and down the west coast
in support of her CD. Kathrin has showcased at the North American
Folk Alliance Conferences in Memphis, Tennessee, and Albuquerque,
New Mexico. She has performed in Cannes, France for the MIDEM Music
Festival, in Edinburgh, Scotland for the Fringe Festival, and in
Copenhagen, Denmark as a featured artist on the nationally televised
program “Good Morning Denmark”. Kathrin was singled out of 2500
entrees as a finalist in the Lilith Fair Talent Search in Los Angeles.
Her song, “Jeri’s Song”, appears in the film, “5 Minutes”, which
won the Gold Jury Award for short film at the 2001 Houston International
Film Festival. Recently Kathrin recorded music which was featured
in a trailer for the Academy Award nominated film, “The Hours”,
and she appeared on a special edition of CNN for a story covering
the rising popularity of house concerts and the artists in demand.

A&R Online recommends Kathrin Shorr
A dynamic and captivating performer with
the unique ability to intoxicate an audience with just
herself and a guitar. That's refreshing to me right now
as we seem to exist in a world of puppets and puppeteers.
Can we get back to more of this?
