Music
has always been part of my life, theres no doubt about that.
I was 3 years old when my mother, an accomplished violinist herself,
recognized my vocal talents. It wasnt long till I was getting
voice lessons on a weekly basis and holding annual recitals near
my hometown in New Jersey as a boy soprano.
I
had a pretty reserved attitude throughout grade school; I read
a lot and kept singing as well. I guess it all paid off in the
end, because my grades and singing were both good enough to land
me at the prestigious Horace Mann High School in the Bronx. There,
with the help and development training of world-renowned composer
and conductor Johannes Somary, I was able to really hone my skills
and take my singing to a new level, performing around New York
City venues including Carnegie Hall as a tenor soloist with Somarys
various boys ensembles and choirs. I did a lot of singing at churches
as well all across Manhattan, including a highlight performance
of Handels Messiah at Columbias St. Paul Chapel.
By
the end of high school, I was a pretty accomplished and mature
singer; I was taking voice lessons with a former Metropolitan
Opera voice coach and it seemed like I was headed for curtain
calls at Lincoln Center. I took a music scholarship to Syracuse
University and prepared for a career.
When
I got to college, however, everything changed. I got much more
interested in all kinds of other styles of music, ranging from
pop and rock to techno; I developed a VERY eclectic taste in music
to say the least. The tide of pop culture drew me in, and I found
myself slowly drifting away from the strictly classical I had
sung all my life.
Armed
with a newfound stylistic approach to music, I came home after
3 years of college, looking more seriously at making a career
out of my talents. Fate called my cell phone the day I got home,
as my old friend Somary called me up after not talking for 3+
years asking if there was anything he could do to help. I jumped
on the opportunity, and resparked our relationship with high hopes.
My voice had matured, my inspiration was renewed, and my influences
were adjusted to a more romantic nature; I had a good idea of
what I wanted to do. With his help, I cut my first demo CD at
prominent City Hall in the heart of New York City, where young
Carusos demonstrated their talents.
I
was back in the game, spending each day working towards my dream
to ultimately pursue singing as my career. Ive since been
working with producer Miklos Malek of Yellowgater Productions
and 100%Music on my debut album. This new project is about integrating
my classical voice with a more romantic sound and creating music
that everyone can appreciate, and most importantly, enjoy.
